Position Summary:
We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Remote Proofreader to ensure the accuracy, clarity, and consistency of a wide range of written and digital content. In this fully remote role, you will be responsible for reviewing documents for errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, syntax, formatting, and factual inconsistencies. You will play a crucial role in maintaining our professional image and ensuring that all communications are error-free. This position requires a highly organized, self-motivated individual with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
Responsibilities:
Thorough Document Review: Carefully read and proofread various types of documents, including but not limited to:
Website content
Marketing materials (brochures, flyers, emails)
Patient education materials
Internal communications (memos, reports, presentations)
Policy and procedure documents
Training materials
Social media posts
Other written and digital content as needed.
Identifying and Correcting Errors: Identify and correct errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, syntax, and formatting.
Ensuring Consistency: Verify consistency in terminology, style, branding, and formatting across all documents.
Fact-Checking: Verify factual information, including names, dates, statistics, and other details, as required.
Providing Constructive Feedback: Offer clear and concise feedback to content creators and other stakeholders on areas for improvement in writing style and clarity.
Adhering to Style Guides: Follow established style guides (e.g., AP Style, Chicago Manual of Style, in-house style guide) and ensure consistent application.
Meeting Deadlines: Manage workload effectively and meet deadlines for assigned proofreading tasks.
Maintaining Confidentiality: Handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Utilizing Proofreading Tools: Utilize and stay updated on relevant proofreading software and tools.
Collaborating with Team Members: Communicate effectively with writers, editors, and other team members to clarify ambiguities and ensure accuracy.
Maintaining a Proofreading Log: Keep accurate records of documents proofread and any issues identified.
Qualifications:
Work Permit/Citizenship: Must be a United States citizen or possess a valid work permit allowing employment in the United States.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience as a proofreader or copy editor. Experience in the healthcare industry is a plus.
Exceptional Language Skills: Native or near-native fluency in English with a strong command of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
Attention to Detail: Impeccable attention to detail and a keen eye for identifying even the smallest errors.
Knowledge of Style Guides: Familiarity with common style guides (e.g., AP Style, Chicago Manual of Style).
Computer Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook) and comfortable using digital proofreading tools and software.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Time Management and Organization: Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a remote environment.
Self-Motivation and Independence: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take initiative.
Discretion and Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and maintain confidentiality.
