Registered Nurse (RN) – Oncology (Chemotherapy) | Full Time
Pay Range: $46.47 – $65.05 per hour
Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Bonuses:
- $10,000 Sign-On Bonus (for candidates with 3+ years RN experience)
Position Summary
Under the direction of department leadership and the Charge Nurse, the Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive, holistic, and individualized nursing care using the nursing process for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
This role requires a strong clinical foundation in oncology care and disease management, including chemotherapy/biotherapy administration, patient education, care coordination, and ongoing assessment of physical and psychosocial needs.
The RN will serve as a central point of contact and patient advocate, coordinating care across internal teams and external providers, while contributing positively to the organization's Cancer Treatment Services and Nursing Practice standards.
Patient Population
The RN provides care to a broad patient population, including:
- Adult and geriatric oncology patients
- Adolescent patients
- Patients, families, caregivers, and the general public
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Clinical Care & Assessment
- Perform initial and ongoing assessments of patients' physical and psychosocial conditions
- Identify priorities for nursing interventions based on patient goals and outcomes
- Monitor patient responses using lab values, imaging, and clinical indicators
- Recognize and respond to subtle or complex changes in patient condition
Treatment & Procedures
- Administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, blood products, and supportive therapies
- Perform specialized procedures including:
- Port and PICC line access
- Wound care
- Symptom management interventions
- Ensure all equipment and supplies are available, functional, and safe for use
Care Coordination & Patient Advocacy
- Act as a primary point of contact for patients throughout their treatment journey
- Coordinate care with physicians, specialists, hospice, and community providers
- Clarify and resolve treatment orders or discrepancies with physicians
- Assist in developing and adjusting individualized care and intervention plans
Patient & Family Education
- Provide comprehensive education on diagnosis, treatment plans, and care options
- Support patients and caregivers with ongoing guidance and emotional support
- Reinforce patient safety goals and treatment adherence
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of:
- Patient condition and changes
- Treatments, medications, and interventions
- Communication with care teams
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, and CMS core measures
- Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) and infection prevention protocols
Quality & Professional Practice
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and interdisciplinary meetings
- Maintain current knowledge of oncology trends and evidence-based practices
- Support training and development of other staff as needed
- Uphold the California Nursing Practice Act and ANA Code of Ethics
Operational Expectations
- Demonstrate effective delegation and team coordination
- Maintain productivity and adapt to changing patient or departmental needs
- Participate in emergency response and disaster support as required
- Maintain professional behavior and collaboration with all staff
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience (within the past 3 years)
- Oncology experience strongly preferred
Licensure & Certifications
- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) License (Required)
- BLS Certification (Required)
- OCN Certification or ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Certification (Preferred)

- Ability to manage complex, multi-system patient needs
- Excellent communication, education, and coordination skills
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy

Work Environment & Expectations
- Must be able to work scheduled shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed
- Expected to participate in emergency and disaster response situations
- Demonstrates accountability for ethical conduct and compliance reporting
