Registered Nurse – Pediatrics / Med-Surg | Porterville, CA

We are partnering with a well-established, community-focused acute care medical center in Porterville, California to find a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) for their Pediatrics / Medical-Surgical unit. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity for a nurse who is passionate about delivering holistic, individualized patient care across a broad age range in a supportive hospital environment.

Position Details

  • Setting: Acute Care Hospital — Pediatrics / Medical-Surgical Unit
  • Patient Population: All ages — newborn through geriatric (primary focus: infants, children, and adolescents 1 day – 13 years; also adults in observation/outpatient status)
  • Schedule: Full-Time | 12-hour shifts
  • Shift: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
  • Weekends/Holidays: Required — including call-backs, weeknights, and on-call as needed
  • Location: Porterville, CA
  • Pay Rate: $46.00 – $47.50 per hour
  • Start Date: ASAP

Sign-On Bonus

  • $10,000 sign-on bonus for candidates with 3+ years of RN experience
  • Position may also qualify for an employee referral bonus

About the Role

Under the general direction of Medical Surgical Leadership and the Charge Nurse, the Pediatric/Med-Surg RN independently provides holistic, individualized care using the nursing process for patients routinely seen on the unit. The ideal candidate demonstrates an advanced level of clinical competency, nursing judgment, and teaching skills, with a genuine commitment to improving the quality of patient care.

This role serves patients from newborn through adolescent (ages 1 day to 13 years) as well as adults in outpatient or observation status, requiring strong knowledge of growth and development across all patient groups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide age-appropriate assessment, treatment, and care for all patient populations served
  • Utilize holistic assessment skills to recognize subtle, covert, or abnormal signs and symptoms
  • Identify nursing diagnoses and select applicable nursing care standards to guide individualized patient care
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate Care Plans specific to each patient, incorporating interdependent nursing standards and discharge needs
  • Safely administer medications, troubleshoot equipment, and demonstrate skill in clinical problem solving per established policy and standards
  • Communicate changes in patient status with supportive data to physicians and the healthcare team in a timely manner
  • Adhere to Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) as defined by scope of practice
  • Demonstrate proper infection prevention skills including protocols related to central lines and indwelling Foley catheters
  • Maintain accurate, compliant documentation per hospital policies and procedures
  • Report quality or Risk Management issues through appropriate lines of authority
  • Uphold all aspects of the California Nursing Practice Act and ANA Code of Ethics
  • Participate in emergencies and community disasters as a designated disaster service worker per the California Emergency Services Act

Requirements

  • Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing — required
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification — required (or obtained during orientation prior to hands-on patient care)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) provider card — required within 6 months of assignment
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification — required within 6 months of assignment
  • Basic computer skills — required
  • Ability to read/interpret clinical documents, write reports, and calculate medication dosages
  • Must be available for holidays, weekends, call-backs, and on-call shifts as required
  • Pediatric or Med-Surg nursing experience preferred
