About Westerwelle Startup Haus Mombasa:
Westerwelle Startup Haus Mombasa is the newest hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in the heart of Mombasa, joining the Westerwelle Foundation global network. Headquartered in Berlin, the foundation currently operates hubs in Rwanda, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Kenya, and runs support programmes focused on business ideation, proof of concept, and international acceleration.
The Mombasa hub provides a collaborative space for startups and stakeholders to meet, develop their skills, and connect with an international network of startups and support resources. In addition to co-working and private offices, the hub also offers event and meeting spaces, programs, and networking opportunities.
Purpose of the Assignment
The consultant will be responsible for driving occupancy growth, partnerships, and revenue generation for WSHM through proactive sales, online and offline marketing campaigns tailored to the Mombasa context, and ecosystem engagement. The assignment focuses on achieving measurable results in co-working desk occupancy, private office leases, event/meeting room bookings, and partnerships that enhance visibility and drive foot traffic to the hub.
Scope of Work
The contracted consultant will be responsible for
1. Sales & Occupancy Growth
- Convert incoming leads into signed coworking and private office contracts.
- Drive occupancy of private offices (target: at least 4 additional offices leased during the consultancy period).
- Achieve coworking desk occupancy of at least 60% within the assignment duration.
2. Event & Meeting Room Revenue
- Increase external bookings for meeting rooms and event spaces.
- Develop tailored packages for corporates, NGOs, and CBOs to use WSHM facilities for meetings, trainings, and events.
3. Marketing & Campaigns
- Design and implement an online and offline marketing campaign to enhance visibility of the hub and its services.
- Ensure that all marketing content is localized to resonate with Mombasa's entrepreneurial and youth demographic.
- Tailor online campaigns to platforms relevant to the local market, including WhatsApp, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, alongside offline outreach such as flyers, activations, and ecosystem events.
- Review and improve marketing materials (flyers, brochures, digital content) ensuring brand consistency.
- Manage digital outreach (social media, email campaigns, online ads) to generate quality leads with WSHM resources.
4. Partnership Development
- Develop and initiate a partnership framework with corporates, other entrepreneurial support organizations, NGOs, and CBOs.
- Co-create and co-implement events with key partners that drive visibility and foot traffic to the hub.
- Position the hub as a key ecosystem player in Mombasa.
5. Reporting & Accountability
- Provide weekly progress updates to the Country Director.
- Track, analyze, and report KPIs (leads, conversions, occupancy rates, revenue growth, partnerships signed).
- Recommend adjustments to strategies to meet targets.
Deliverables / Targets
- At least 60% occupancy of coworking space by end of consultancy.
- At least 4 private offices leased.
- At least 58 confirmed new event/meeting room bookings.
- At least 3 partnerships initiated with corporates/NGOs/CBOs, with co-implemented event concepts.
- A marketing campaign report, including analytics and conversion data.
Expertise and Qualifications
We are looking for the following expertise and qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in marketing, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field.
- Proven sales and business development experience, preferably in coworking, real estate, or B2B services.
- Strong digital marketing and campaign execution skills (social media, email, online ads).
- Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite).
- Experience using CRM systems and project management tools (e.g., Nexudus, Asana, HubSpot, Trello).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and client management skills.
- Experience working with corporates, NGOs, and community-based organizations.
- Familiarity with the Mombasa entrepreneurship and business ecosystem is an advantage.
- Fluency in English and Swahili
- Entrepreneurial, adaptable, and capable of taking initiative.
Duration and Location:
- Duration: 4 months, extendable based on performance.
- Compensation: This is a fixed-term consultancy with a monthly payment structure. Payment will be made monthly, based on performance and measurable progress against deliverables.
- Performance Clause: Contract may be terminated after one month if no measurable progress is demonstrated and may be discontinued at any point if agreed deliverables are not met to mutually agreed terms
- Location: Based in Mombasa, with flexibility for meetings, events, and outreach activities.
