About the job Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Company Overview

Our client is a climate technology company developing innovative Direct Air Capture (DAC) systems designed to remove CO directly from the atmosphere. The company is currently developing a prototype system that integrates airflow contactors, liquid circulation systems, filtration, and structural assemblies for carbon capture.

Job Summary

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of a Direct Air Capture system. The role involves transforming conceptual process designs into fully engineered mechanical systems, including airflow modules, liquid circulation loops, piping networks, and fabrication-ready CAD assemblies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of Direct Air Capture machines, including airflow contactor modules, circulation systems, structural frames, and housing assemblies.
  • Perform engineering calculations for airflow systems, pumps, piping networks, and liquid distribution systems.
  • Develop detailed 3D CAD assemblies including contactor housings, manifolds, pumps, fan assemblies, filters, and structural frames.
  • Support prototype fabrication and testing in collaboration with fabrication workshops.
  • Design piping systems including pumps, valves, manifolds, and instrumentation.
  • Collaborate with fabrication workshops during prototype manufacturing and testing.
  • Translate conceptual process designs into complete mechanical systems ready for fabrication.
  • Ensure designs align with manufacturing processes such as sheet metal fabrication, welding, and CNC manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and industrial equipment.
  • Strong communication skills and English fluency is a must.
  • Experience in equipment manufacturing is required.
  • Advanced experience with CAD tools.
  • Strong knowledge of piping systems, pump sizing, and fluid distribution.
  • Experience with CFD tools (ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM).
  • Knowledge of airflow engineering and pressure drop calculations.
  • Experience with HVAC airflow systems is a plus.
