About the job Senior Controls Engineer
Controls Engineer with a real passion for automation? 🛠️ 👀️ Continue reading; it gets better as you read! 🫣
We’re looking for a Senior Controls Engineer to join our client’s team at their headquarters in El Segundo!
Our client is all about pushing the limits in the mining and drilling world. They’re after someone who shares that energy, someone excited to design and build advanced automated solutions for next-gen drilling rigs. In this role, you’ll get to create schematics, hook up sensors and actuators, and write closed-loop PLC code that turns big ideas into real machines. You’ll handle everything from designing control panels to picking power components built to survive the toughest conditions out there.
And the best part? You don’t need prior mining or drilling experience!
⚙️What will you do?
- Take part in early equipment design and balance specs, process needs, layout complexity, cost, and lead times.
- Design NFPA79/NEC/UL508A-compliant control panels and create electrical, pneumatic, and fluid schematics.
- Write, debug, and maintain clean, well-documented PLC code for manufacturing applications.
- Build clear, user-friendly HMI screens for complex systems.
- Oversee cabinet builds, field wiring, pneumatics, and fluid plumbing.
- Select and size electrical components like servo motors and controllers.
- Deploy automated systems into production and keep projects on track with schedules and budgets.
🛠️What are they looking for?
- Solid PLC programming experience (ideally Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 & Siemens TIA Portal).
- CAD skills for electrical schematics (EPlan, SOLIDWORKS Electrical, or similar).
- HMI and SCADA programming (Python and/or SQL a plus).
- Understanding of fieldbus networks (EtherCAT, Profinet, Ethernet/IP) and distributed I/O.
- Hands-on experience building and commissioning control panels and electromechanical systems (bonus: working with KUKA, ABB, or Fanuc robots).
- Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 79, and UL508A codes for panel design and installation.
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
- Comfortable in fast-paced, iterative design and manufacturing environments.
- Able to tackle complex problems independently or as part of a team.
- Bias for action, pride in your work, and focus on finding the right solution over just being “right.”
- Must be willing to work from our headquarters in El Segundo
💰What are your compensation and benefits?🤔
- This role pays $150,000-$180,000, plus equity, so you’ll have a real stake in the company’s success. As our client grows, your equity grows too.
- They also invest heavily in the team: freedom and resources to experiment, fast decision-making (no middle management!), and the chance to own big initiatives from day one.
Benefits include:
- 100% healthcare coverage (medical, dental, and vision).
- All meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are covered when you’re at HQ.
- Help finding housing nearby.
