Whitestone Associates, Inc., a 100% employee-owned company and leading provider of environmental and geotechnical engineering and consulting services throughout the eastern US, is currently recruiting for a Staff Accountant to join our Warren, NJ office location. This is a tremendous opportunity for experienced candidates to join and contribute to the growth of a 100% employee-owned engineering firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting;
  • Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations, researching and resolving variances;
  • Review billing, prepare accruals, and support month-end close activities;
  • Assist with the preparation of internal financial statements and management reports;
  • Review invoices, expense reports, and credit card transactions in accordance with company policies;
  • Set up new vendors and subcontractors, ensuring all required documentation is collected and verified (e.g., W-9s, Certificates of Insurance, contracts, and other compliance materials);
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and support the month-end and year-end close process;
  • Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and financial analysis as needed;
  • Support year-end audit requests and provide documentation to external auditors;
  • Apply knowledge of lease accounting and fixed asset accounting to maintain accurate records and depreciation schedules;
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and contribute to process improvement initiatives;
  • Perform other accounting duties and projects as assigned by the CFO; and
  • This is an in-office position based in our Warren, NJ office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field;
  • Minimum of 2+ years of progressive accounting experience;
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles;
  • Knowledge of lease accounting and fixed asset accounting;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (experience with Deltek Vision or Vantagepoint preferred);
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines; and
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.

  • The estimated annual compensation for this role is between $65,000-$80,000
