Job Description:

Interim QA / Test Automation Engineer (Playwright + Postman + Azure DevOps)

Were supporting a fast-growing scale-up (±25 people) that is building a new Microsoft-based platform with many microservices and APIs. Current automated test coverage is low, and we want to significantly increase confidence and release speed by setting up a solid automation foundation.

This is not a role for someone who mainly executes manual test cases. Were looking for a hands-on, highly technical QA / Test Automation Engineer who can set up the automation frameworks from scratch, implement the first tests, and enable developers to extend and maintain the solution going forward.

What youll do

  • Design and implement an automated testing approach (tooling choice is open, within the stated preferences)
  • Build UI test automation with Playwright (TypeScript preferred)
  • Create and maintain Postman collections and set up automated API tests
  • Define a pragmatic test strategy with the team (UI vs API vs integration vs other)
  • Integrate automated tests into Azure DevOps Pipelines (CI/CD)
  • Implement the first end-to-end / regression flows and establish patterns, reporting, and maintainability practices
  • Collaborate closely with developers and product to identify critical coverage

Must-haves

  • Strong hands-on experience with Playwright for UI automation (TypeScript preferred)
  • Hands-on experience creating and maintaining Postman collections for automated API testing
  • Ability to design and implement a test automation architecture / framework in an environment with low existing QA maturity
  • Experience integrating automated tests into Azure DevOps Pipelines
  • Strong collaboration skills with developers to determine test coverage strategy
  • Fluent English (international team)

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in microservices-heavy environments
  • Experience with API observability/logging and test data validation (e.g., SQL, messaging)
  • Experience coaching developers on test automation practices

Practical details

  • Start: ASAP (target around 1 February; later start possible for a top candidate)
  • Duration: ~3 months initial focus to get the foundation up and running (extension possible depending on progress/needs)
  • Availability: preferably at least 2 days/week, more is better
  • Rate guideline: €75-90,-/hour (all-in)
