The Opportunity
Currently they are seeking a seasoned and results-oriented Director, Marine & Logistics Operations to lead our operational strategy and execution. This is a critical leadership role that requires a hands-on approach and extensive on-the-ground experience. The ideal candidate will be a visionary who can optimize their current operations while driving the growth into new markets and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Oversee all aspects of our tug and barge operations, including vessel scheduling, crew management, voyage planning, and maintenance. Ensure the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and execute long-term operational strategies that align with the company's business goals, including fleet expansion, route optimization, and new market entry.
- On-Site Management: Regularly travel to various operational sites, ports, and onboard vessels to directly monitor, audit, and improve operational procedures. This role is not desk-bound and requires significant field presence.
- Performance & Profitability: Manage the operational budget, control costs, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive profitability and make data-driven decisions.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing team of captains, engineers, and onshore support staff. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Regulatory & Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all national and international maritime laws, safety regulations, and company-specific protocols. Act as the key liaison with port authorities and other regulatory bodies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Extensive Experience: A minimum of 15-20 years of progressive experience in marine operations, with a mandatory focus on the tug and barge sector.
- Demonstrated Leadership: Proven experience in a senior leadership role (e.g., Operations Director, Marine Operations Manager, COO).
- Operational Expertise: Deep knowledge of tug and barge vessel operations, maintenance, cargo handling, and port procedures.
- Travel-Ready: Willingness and ability to travel frequently to various operational sites and ports to personally supervise and assess operations.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of successfully managing complex logistics and unforeseen challenges.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead a diverse team and build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
