Our Client is seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead and optimize all operational aspects of our tug and barges business. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with deep expertise in marine logistics, vessel operations, and strategic management. The COO will be responsible for ensuring operational excellence, driving efficiency, and contributing to the long-term growth and profitability of the company. This role requires a professional who can lead a diverse team, manage complex logistics, and maintain the highest standards of safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Oversee all day-to-day operations of the tug and barges fleet, including scheduling, maintenance, crew management, and logistics to ensure maximum efficiency and utilization.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the executive team to develop and execute long-term strategic plans that align with the companys business objectives and market positioning.
- Safety and Compliance: Establish and enforce stringent safety protocols, environmental regulations, and compliance with national and international maritime laws (SOLAS, MARPOL, etc.) to ensure a safe working environment and protect company assets.
- Fleet and Asset Management: Manage the maintenance, repair, and procurement of tugboats and barges, ensuring the fleet is in optimal condition and adhering to class and flag state requirements.
- Financial Oversight: Manage the operational budget, control costs, and analyze performance metrics to drive profitability and make data-driven decisions.
- Team Management and Development: Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing team of captains, engineers, crew, and onshore support staff. Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Client and Stakeholder Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, port authorities, and industry partners to ensure client satisfaction and secure new business opportunities.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate operational and business risks to protect the companys interests and ensure business continuity.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role, such as COO, General Manager, or Operations Director, within the marine or logistics industry.
- Extensive and demonstrable expertise in tug and barges operations is mandatory.
- Strong understanding of maritime regulations, safety standards, and best practices.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills with a track record of developing and motivating staff.
- Solid financial acumen with experience in budget management and cost control.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- A bachelors degree in Business Administration, Maritime Management, Engineering, or a related field is required. A master's degree is a plus.
