Job Description:
The Technical Manager will be responsible for overseeing the technical operations of the companys tugboat and barge fleet, ensuring all vessels operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulatory and class requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vessel Maintenance & Repair Management
- Develop and implement the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) for the entire fleet.
- Oversee preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance of all vessel machinery and equipment (main engine, auxiliary engine, genset, winch, steering gear).
- Plan, supervise, and control annual and periodic docking activities.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for major machinery or equipment failures.
- Ensure all vessels meet technical requirements set by Class, Flag State, Port Authority, and internal company standards.
- Coordinate and manage vessel certifications, including statutory certificates, class certificates, and ISM/ISPS compliance.
- Conduct routine inspections of hull, machinery, and navigational equipment to ensure optimal condition.
- Evaluate and develop the performance of technical crew, including Chief Engineers, Second Engineers, and engine teams.
- Provide technical guidance and ensure SOPs and maintenance standards are implemented effectively.
Requirements
- Strong experience 5-10 years as a Technical Manager in marine/shipping, must have experience with tug & barge operations and managing large fleets (>15 vessels).
- Proven experience in managing docking, major overhauls, and marine engine maintenance for brands such as Yanmar, Cummins, Caterpillar, Mitsubishi, Niigata (depending on fleet).
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Marine Engineering.
- Strong technical knowledge of: Main engine & auxiliary engine, Genset, Propulsion system (gearbox, shaft, propeller), Bilge & ballast system, Hydraulic system (winch, steering gear), Planned Maintenance System (PMS) operation and implementation
- Solid understanding of Class rules, Flag State requirements, and statutory certificates.
- Familiar with ISM Code, ISPS Code, and SMK3.
