A mid-sized accounting firm committed to providing exceptional client accounting services is currently recruiting a talented individual to join their team as a State And Local Tax (Senior/ Supervisor). 

Reporting To: SALT Manager

Key responsibilities:

  • 60% review and 40% preparation of franchise and income tax returns for various states, including exemptions, credits, and incentives.
  • Participate in a full range of SALT engagements, tax research, preparation of technical memorandums, drafting client correspondence, and counseling clients in defending against state audits.
  • Assist with sales/use taxes to identify corporate structures that can reduce client's tax liability.
  • Recognize and inform senior management of opportunities to increase level and types of services to clients.
  • Participate in continuing education classes to stay up to date on accounting standards and tax law.
  • Assist with training and developing staff.
  • Manage a team of 4.

Key experience and skills

  • CPA eligible or have JD/ passed the bar
  • 3-7 years in direct tax experience (state franchise and income tax)
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in accounting or tax.
  • 3-7 years of SALT experience in a mid-market public accounting firm
  • Experience in tax research, tax returns and tax review of state income and franchise tax

Open to Hybrid: Tax staff and seniors need to be in Chicago for lunch and learns weekly in the summer, and the entire tax department is in office 2 days a week during busy season, offering flexibility outside of the season.
