The position:

As a Senior Accountant / Team Leader, you will lead a team of accountants, overseeing their work and ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on time. You will provide mentorship, review financial statements and tax returns, and take an active role in client advisory. Over time, you will build strong client relationships and contribute to business growth through strategic financial advice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and oversee financial statements, tax returns, and compliance lodgements (BAS, IAS, FBT) prepared by junior and intermediate accountants.
  • Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to develop staff skills and technical expertise.
  • Manage workflow to ensure tasks are completed accurately, on time, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and manage indirect tax obligations, including payroll tax, workers compensation, and land tax.
  • Research and resolve complex tax matters, including tax-efficient structuring for property portfolios.
  • Support the Director in managing client portfolios, providing strategic tax planning and cash flow management advice.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance client service and introduce value-added services.
  • Maintain strong client relationships through clear communication and timely service delivery.
  • Stay up to date with legislative changes and ensure compliance across all engagements.
  • Maintain accurate records and timesheets while fostering a positive, collaborative team culture.

Skills and experience

  • CAANZ or CPA qualified (preferred).
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in accounting / team management in a public practice accounting firm.
  • Experience reviewing and mentoring junior accounting staff.
  • Strong technical expertise in accounting, taxation, and compliance across various entity types.
  • High proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, APS, and other cloud-based tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the ability to provide strategic financial advice.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills.
