The Role
As our Senior Accountant / Team Leader, you'll work independently across standard accounting and tax engagements while leading the production team, reviewing output, mentoring junior staff, and acting as the key link between our Philippines team and the Brisbane office.
Roles and Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Production Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage the day-to-day performance of the Philippines-based production team
- Allocate workflows, monitor turnaround times, and ensure deadlines are consistently met
- Review team output for accuracy, compliance, and quality before it reaches the Australian office
- Act as the key point of escalation for technical accounting queries within the team
- Coach and upskill junior and intermediate accountants, fostering a culture of continuous improvement
- Support the onboarding and training of new team members
Technical Accounting & Compliance
- Independently process electronic data and journal entries across all client sizes; prepare complete working papers and reconciliations with no guidance required
- Prepare and review financial statements, tax returns, BAS, FBT, and tax planning schedules
- Review returns for individuals, partnerships, trusts, and companies, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Australian tax law
- Manage ATO correspondence and queries on behalf of clients
- Attend to routine corporate secretarial requirements independently, including ASIC notifications, minutes, and resolutions
- Conduct ongoing tax research to stay ahead of legislative changes and anticipate their impact on clients
- Prepare tax planning schedules and supporting analysis for manager/partner review
- Respond to client queries
- Draft responses for the client manager review on more complex or sensitive matters
Process & Quality Improvement
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve production efficiency
- Maintain and improve internal SOPs, checklists, and quality control processes
What We're Looking For
- 6+ years in Australian public practice accounting, focused on tax and financial statements
- Prior experience as a team leader, supervisor, or production manager
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and Australian tax compliance
- Sharp attention to detail and a proactive, efficiency-minded approach
- Confident written and verbal communication
