Background

Workpay was founded in Kenya in 2019 and now has teams in five African countries. Our core product is Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) that enables organizations to manage leave, benefits, and payroll, then to pay employees. We also provide Employer of Record (EoR) services, enabling organizations to remotely engage employees in other countries without the cost, risk, and hassle of incorporation, contracting, and tax filing in those countries.

Role Overview
The Senior Finance Officer will report to the Finance Manager and lead day-to-day bookkeeping and financial reporting across Workpays different country entities. They will also support budgeting, cash, and forecasting. The role requires excellent organizational and quantitative skills. You are expected to be detail-oriented and knowledgeable about accounting practices and regulations; to have a strong commercial awareness and a keen interest in startup growth, efficiency, and profitability; and demonstrate strong independent problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Managing all accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledgers, cost accounting, and revenue recognition.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly bank & mobile money statements reconciliations.
  • Prepare and publish monthly and quarterly and annual management accounts and reports
  • Carry out tax preparation, auditing, banking, investments, and other financial needs
  • Track company financial status and performance to identify areas for potential improvement
  • Facilitate timely payments to local suppliers and other company expenses
  • Provide insights and forecasts to Executive team for long and short-term decision making
  • Help establish and maintain financial policies and procedures for the company.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • A bachelors degree in finance, accounting, or related field are required
  • CPA/ACCA qualifications are required.
  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience is required
    • Experience at a multi-country firm necessary
    • Experience with high-growth startup strongly preferred
    • Experience with a Big Four audit firms is added advantage
  • Solid understanding of IFRS and well versed in Tax matters
  • Expert proficiency in Quickbooks and Advanced Excel
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with teams.
