About the Role:

We are now recruiting for the position of Provincial Trail Leader, and are looking for 6 Provincial Trail Leaders, one for each of the Scouting Ireland Provinces [Northern, North Eastern, Dublin, Western, Southern, and South Eastern].

The Trails are one of the key elements of the Moot experience, and will help shape the experience, of the 5000 participants from all over the world, into one that they will never forget.

We are open to a variety of applications from individuals, pairs or from those with an openness to mentoring.

What does the role involve?

This role will be shaped by the successful individual(s), in partnership with the Head of Trails, his Deputies, and Head of Programme. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the delivery of the Moot’s educational objectives through a varied and exciting programme experience.
  • Assist in developing a framework to ensure a streamlined structure and delivery of Trail Programme across the island of Ireland, with particular reference to their Province.
  • Work with local Scouting (counties and groups) to ensure delivery of agreed Trail Programme.
  • Support a network of Trails before, during and after the World Scout Moot experience.
  • Support Trail Leaders in the development of a Unique Selling Proposition (USP) of their Trail.
  • Guarantee quality programme delivery on all Trails (through testing and risk evaluation).
  • Work in partnership with Trail Leaders, Volunteer Support & Logistics to ensure appropriate allocation of resources for all Trails.
  • Work with Logistics & Finance to develop a Procurement Matrix which ensures sustainability and resourcefulness.
  • Work closely with other departments across the Moot Planning Team & Core Team to ensure delivery of a World Class Moot Programme.

Is this the right role for you?

  • Are you based in Ireland with your own transport, and do you have strong geographical knowledge of Ireland, with particular reference to your own Scouting Ireland Province?
  • Are you able to build and maintain a good network of contacts spread across your full Scouting Ireland Province?
  • Do you have experience and/or interest in event planning, logistics, and management of a remote team?
  • Are you able to set clear standards, and ensure consistency?
  • Do you have strong communication skills?
  • Are you comfortable making decisions which may be, at times, difficult?

Time commitment:

This role will require a significant investment in time, from 2020 right through to the Moot itself, and post-Moot review.

This role will entail continuous remote and face-to-face meetings (in Ireland) both on evenings and weekends.

The successful individual(s) will also be expected to be available during the Trail stage of the Moot event, and will likely need to be available in the days prior/post-Moot for logistical and delivery purposes.

Terms of Appointment:

This is a voluntary unremunerated role. However, reasonable expenses in line with the Scouting Ireland & World Organisation of the Scout Movement (whichever is the most relevant) expenses policies will be paid.
