Job Description: Senior General Manager – Operations (Garments Manufacturing)

Job Summary

The Senior General Manager – Operations will lead and oversee the entire garment manufacturing operations across 3 Production Units to ensure achievement of production targets, quality standards, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery while maintaining full compliance with buyer requirements, BEPZA regulations, and international standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Leadership

• Lead end-to-end factory operations including Cutting, Sewing, Finishing, and Packing.
• Ensure smooth coordination across all departments for uninterrupted production flow.
• Drive operational excellence across woven and knit units.

2. Production & Performance Management

• Achieve production targets with optimum efficiency and productivity.
• Ensure on-time delivery (OTD) as per buyer commitments.
• Monitor and control key production KPIs such as efficiency, cost per garment, and machine utilization.

3. Production Planning & Control (PPC)

• Oversee production planning, capacity allocation, and order execution.
• Ensure proper line loading and optimize production schedules.
• Collaborate with merchandising and supply chain to align production plans.

4. Industrial Engineering & Process Improvement

• Implement Industrial Engineering practices (SMV, line balancing, capacity planning).
• Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives including 5S, Kaizen, and waste reduction.
• Continuously improve productivity and operational efficiency.

5. Quality Management

• Ensure adherence to quality standards and buyer requirements.
• Monitor DHU (Defects per Hundred Units) and FPY (First Pass Yield).
• Lead QA/QC teams to achieve zero defect production targets.

6. Cost Control & Resource Optimization

• Optimize manpower, machine utilization, and raw material consumption.
• Control manufacturing costs and improve margins.
• Identify and eliminate waste across all production stages.

7. Compliance & Safety

• Ensure full compliance with BEPZA regulations, labor laws, and buyer ethical standards.
• Maintain environmental, health, and safety (EHS) standards.
• Drive audit readiness for social, technical, and compliance audits.

8. Cross-Functional Coordination

• Work closely with Merchandising, Commercial, HR, Maintenance, and Warehouse teams.
• Ensure timely material availability and smooth execution of production orders.

9. Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop departmental heads and operational teams.
• Build a high-performance culture through training and capability development.
• Drive accountability and continuous improvement mindset.

10. Reporting & KPI Monitoring

• Prepare and present operational reports to top management.
• Monitor KPIs including:
• Production Efficiency
• On-Time Delivery (OTD)
• Quality
• Cost per Garment
• Productivity
• Machine Utilization
• Compliance Audit Scores

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Textile Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
• MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification preferred.

Experience Requirements

• Proven track record in managing multi-site Production units
• Minimum 15+ years of experience in garment manufacturing.
• At least 8+ years in a similar role.
• Strong experience in both woven and knit garments.
