Position Summary:

The Substitute Teacher provides instructional and non-instructional support across divisions at Yongsan International School of Seoul. While formally reporting to a divisional principal, this position serves as a flexible schoolwide resource assigned daily to classrooms and grade levels according to the needs of the Elementary, Middle, or High School divisions. When not actively substituting, the Substitute Teacher contributes to other divisional and departmental initiatives that support instructional delivery, supervision, organization, and student learning.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • State/provincial teaching credential

  • Strong interpersonal skills and adaptability across age groups

  • Basic technical skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites

Primary Responsibilities:

Instructional Support (when substituting):

  • Report to the school office at the beginning of the school day to pick up required materials/schedule of classes, and at the end of the school day to return materials.
  • Implement instructional plans provided by the classroom teacher.
  • Maintain a class environment conducive to learning and respectful interaction.
  • Establish rapport with students while exercising appropriate classroom management.
  • Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals and objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with divisional offices to ensure smooth transitions between teachers and substitutes.

General and Cross-Divisional Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a schoolwide substitute available for daily assignment in any division as directed by the administration.
  • Collaborate with divisional administrative assistants or principals each morning to receive daily assignments and materials.
  • Provide general instructional and operational support to divisions and departments when not substituting (e.g., supervision, academic support, clerical or resource assistance, classroom preparation, or event logistics).
  • Support cross-divisional activities, student supervision, and school events as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and flexibility when responding to varying daily needs across divisions.

Classroom and Student Supervision:

  • Supervise students in classrooms, halls, playgrounds, cafeterias, and other areas as assigned.
  • Ensure students are never left unattended.
  • Take attendance and follow all school procedures for student safety and behavior management.
  • Implement emergency procedures and evacuation plans as needed.

Additional Support Duties (when not substituting):

  • Assist with instructional material preparation, textbook organization, and classroom readiness.
  • Support student learning through small-group or individual academic assistance.
  • Help maintain learning spaces, bulletin boards, and shared resources.
  • Provide administrative or operational support as requested by divisional offices or the Head of School’s designees.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Valid state or provincial teaching credential preferred.

  • Experience working with students in a classroom or school environment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and adaptability across age groups.

  • Proficiency with basic technology, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
