About the job DevOps Engineer
About Castelion
Castelion is bringing a new approach to defense development and production: one that focuses on short, iterative design cycles, rapid testing in development, and modern commercial manufacturing strategies for production at scale. We're designing, building, and testing next-generation long-range strike weapon systems to give America and its Allies a definitive edge and deter future conflicts.
Role Overview
Castelion is seeking a DevOps Engineer to help scale and automate our software development and test infrastructure. This role will focus on closing the gap between required engineering tooling and automated processes across the software lifecycle.
You will design and implement CI/CD workflows, integrate software pipelines with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing environments, and improve the reliability and efficiency of our development infrastructure. This role is ideal for engineers with backgrounds in DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) who enjoy working close to both software and hardware teams to streamline complex engineering workflows.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain CI pipelines to support rapid and reliable software development and testing
- Integrate CI workflows with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and automated test environments
- Improve automation across build, test, deployment, and release processes
- Design and manage development infrastructure supporting engineering teams
- Maintain and improve containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes
- Support hybrid infrastructure across on-premise systems, lab environments, and cloud services
- Implement and maintain tooling that supports embedded software, robotics, and simulation workflows
- Integrate build systems, artifact management, and test frameworks into automated pipelines
- Work closely with software, simulation, and hardware teams to remove bottlenecks in engineering workflows
- Improve reliability, monitoring, and observability of internal development platforms
- Implement monitoring and telemetry solutions using tools such as Grafana
- Diagnose and resolve infrastructure, networking, and performance issues
- Enforce secure development and infrastructure practices
- Manage access controls, secrets management, and system configuration across environments
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 4+ years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering
- Strong experience administering Linux-based systems
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Shell
- Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar)
- Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Strong understanding of Git and modern software development workflows
- Experience troubleshooting infrastructure, networking, and build system issues
Leadership Qualities
- Bias to Action and Creative Problem Solving. Desire and experience questioning assumptions in ways that lead to break through ideas that are ultimately implemented. Successfully bring in applicable processes/concepts/materials from other industries to achieve efficiency gains. Ability to personally resolve minor issues in development without requiring significant support.
- High Commitment, High Initiative. A successful candidate will have a genuine passion for Castelion's mission and consistently look for ways to contribute to the company's technical goals and prevent hardware blockers. Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere. Strong sense of accountability and integrity.
- Clear Communicator. Proactively communicates blockers. Trusted in previous roles to be voice of company with regulators, suppliers, gate keepers and customers. Capable of tactfully managing relationships with stakeholders to achieve company-desired outcomes without compromising relationships. Emails, IMs and verbal interactions are logical, drive clarity, and detailed enough to eliminate ambiguity.
