EHS Specialist

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist supports manufacturing, R&D, and test operations by executing and maintaining EHS programs that ensure safe, compliant day to day operations. This role provides hands on field support across the site, including conducting inspections, supporting training, managing hazardous materials and waste, and maintaining required records and permits.

The EHS Specialist works closely with operations, engineering, and leadership teams to identify hazards, verify controls, and reinforce safe work practices in a fast paced, high hazard environment. This role plays a critical part in keeping people safe, maintaining regulatory compliance, and enabling the organization to operate efficiently as it scales.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine safety and compliance inspections of manufacturing, R&D, and test areas to verify that approved controls, procedures, and permits are being followed and escalate higher risk conditions to the Senior EHS Engineer
  • Perform task walkdowns and document Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) using approved formats, ensuring job steps, hazards, and controls are accurately captured and kept current
  • Verify proper use and condition of PPE, guarding, lockout devices, ventilation, gas monitors, and other safety controls during daily operations
  • Support PPE programs by assisting with PPE assessments, coordinating fittings and issuance, delivering PPE training, and verifying proper use and condition
  • Support implementation and maintenance of EHS programs, plans, and procedures by maintaining required records, permits, postings, and inspection logs
  • Support industrial hygiene activities by deploying sampling equipment, collecting exposure data, coordinating laboratory analysis, and maintaining monitoring records
  • Support incident, near miss, and injury investigations by gathering facts, documenting events, and tracking assigned corrective actions to closure
  • Schedule, deliver, and document EHS training including onboarding, refresher, and task specific training
  • Manage hazardous waste accumulation areas including container labeling, inspections, inventory tracking, and coordination of waste shipments
  • Maintain chemical inventories, Safety Data Sheets, and container labeling to support hazard communication and chemical management
  • Support environmental reporting and permit compliance by maintaining required records, conducting routine inspections, and coordinating submittals and renewals as directed
  • Support site emergency preparedness and response activities by maintaining emergency equipment, participating in drills, and assisting with on scene response actions as directed

Basic Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience supporting EHS programs in manufacturing, laboratory, or industrial environments
  • Working knowledge of OSHA or Cal-OSHA requirements
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically to support operations at other locations as needed
  • Ability to meet U.S. export control requirements (ITAR or EAR)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or other high hazard industries
  • OSHA 30, HAZWOPER, or similar safety training
  • Experience working in a startup or fast paced environment

  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
