Product Development Engineer (Plastics)

Position Overview:

This role is a key member of the New Product Development (NPD) team, responsible for developing parts and products in collaboration with the design team. The focus is on plastic injection tooling components, including both exterior covers and internal mechanical parts. Reporting to the Lead Engineer, the role oversees the development process and ensures deliverables are completed according to the project schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with plastic molding suppliers during product development and mass production phases.
  • Assess and approve new plastic molding suppliers based on company standards, including technical capability, quality systems, and production capacity.
  • Review supplier tooling designs, material selections, and molding processes to ensure alignment with technical drawings and specifications.
  • Conduct supplier process audits and part evaluations to confirm production readiness and capability.
  • Participate in DFM (Design for Manufacturability) discussions to optimize part design and mold structure.
  • Analyze sample parts (FAI, trial parts) and provide detailed technical feedback to suppliers.
  • Assist in resolving molding-related issues and implementing corrective actions during production.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (Quality, Procurement, Production, Production Engineering, R&D) to ensure supplier performance and product quality.
  • Maintain and prepare technical reports, inspection records, and approval documentation.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Over 5 years of experience in the plastics industry, specializing in plastic components.
  • Strong DFM knowledge, including tooling materials, draft angles, mold flow, parting lines, shrinkage rates, cooling, and more.
  • Proficient in measurement analysis, tooling adjustments, and part corrections.
  • Familiar with injection tooling, processes, and various plastics such as ABS, POM, ASA, PA, PS, PC, PMMA.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience with supplier qualification, process audits, and part approvals (FAI, sample approvals).
  • Proficiency in Chinese required; English is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in PC applications (e.g., 3D CAD, MS Office).
  • Basic project management knowledge is advantageous.

Working Conditions:

  • Working hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM 4:30 PM.
  • Compensation: 13th-month salary plus bonuses (April 30, September, year-end), with salary reviews twice a year based on evaluation (average increase 5%).
  • Probation period: 2 months with 85% of basic salary + 100% allowance.
  • Annual leave: 12 days per year.
  • Insurance: Social, health, and unemployment insurance paid based on full salary.
