Role: EXECUTIVE SHIPYARD OPERATIONS
Divisions: Shipyard Operations
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer
Location: Walvis Bay
Nature of the position: 5-year fixed term contract
Primary purpose of this position:
- Is responsible for ensuring operational excellence under the COO while shaping strategic directions in conjunction with the CEO. The role leads and integrates projects and operations to deliver efficiency, compliance, and strategic alignment. Key responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, engineering projects, and maintenance activities; managing resource allocation and project delivery against KPAs; driving continuous improvement to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime; translating organizational strategy into actionable frameworks; advising the CEO/COO on highlevel decisions impacting operations, compliance, and stakeholder engagement; and leading innovation and transformation initiatives such as business improvement programs and operational dashboards. The position ensures that all projects and operations contribute to the organizations longterm sustainability and competitiveness.
Key Performance Areas:
Strategic Leadership
- Participate in the strategic planning and execution process of Namdock.
- Compile the Operational Plan cascaded from the strategic plan and manage the implementation of the Operational Plan.
- Manage the implementation of the operational plan.
Project Management
- Oversee the Project Management Office and Production Division.
- Lead end-to-end project management for shipbuilding and repair projects, from initial planning and design through execution and delivery.
Production Management and efficiencies
- Ensure operations are cost-effective, and projects are completed within budget.
- Manage Internal and External Operational Support Services, including safety, procurement, and quality control, while ensuring effective relations and compliance.
Performance Culture
- Accountable to the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operations Officer regarding the overall performance of the Projects Operations Department.
- Monitor and evaluate the departmental performance against strategic- and operational plans.
Financial Management
- Compile and motivate the annual Divisional budget and submit it for approval to the Chief Executive Officer & Chief Operations Offer (yearly / monthly / quarterly).
- Manage the execution of the Divisional budget in line with the delegations of authority framework.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Manage and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Build mutually beneficial relationships with all relevant stakeholders.
Governance Health, Safety, Environment, and Risk Management
- Manage the identification and mitigation of potential risks in the proposed portfolio by collaborating with relevant stakeholders and conducting comprehensive risk assessments, analysing data, and monitoring market trends.
- Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures to proactively address risks within the organization's services and section, which includes reviewing and enhancing risk management protocols.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Establish and maintain quality control standards for shipyard operations.
- Oversee compliance with industry and regulatory standards, codes, and guidelines.

Qualification and Experience Required:
- A Bachelors degree in either Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Marine Engineering or a similar qualification, with a strong technical background, at level NQF 7.
- A relevant Honours degree at level NQF 8, will be advantageous.
- A Masters degree, at level NQF 9, in a similar field will be an added advantage.
- Ten (10) years of relevant experience of which five (5) years should have been on a Project Manager or Engineering Manager level in engineering projects, or heavy engineering project environment.
- Proven track record in largescale project execution, resource planning, and operational efficiency.
- Valid Code B drivers license.
