Role: COMMERCIAL AND MARKETING EXECUTIVE
Divisions: Commercial and Marketing
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer
Location: Walvis Bay
Nature of the position: 5-year fixed term contract
Primary purpose of this position:
- To lead this Commercial and Marketing division at Namdock with a strong focus on strategic business development, sustainable growth and brand leadership.
- The Executive will develop and execute integrated commercial marketing and innovation strategies that expand Namdocks market presence locally and internationally optimize revenue generation and ensure long-term competitiveness in the Maritime and related industries.
Key Performance Areas:
Operational Leadership
- Communicate Commercial and Marketing department goals, operational instructions, policies, procedures and regulations to subordinates in line with the Vision and Mission of Namdock.
Commercial and Marketing Management
- Develop and execute strategic marketing plans to drive business growth and market share for Namdock.
- Lead market research initiatives to identify emerging trends and customer preferences, providing insights for product and service improvements.
- Foster and manage key client relationships to maximize revenue and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Oversee pricing strategies and competitive positioning to optimize profitability and market competitiveness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create compelling marketing collateral and promotional materials.
- Monitor and analyse sales and marketing metrics to assess performance and make data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.
Business Development
- Monitor the drydock production efficiency as a key selling point and identify, develop and track new business leads to ensure revenue volume realization.
- Coordinate promotional activities, including participation in local and international trade shows and foster relationships with potential customers and suppliers to market Namdock products and services.
- Oversee diversification to minimize risk due to core business fluctuation and trends that are changing.
- Perform Research and Development of potential markets, diversification not related to core business.
Key Accounts Management
- Develop and implement strategies to foster successful customer relationships, effectively promoting Namdock services and bolstering the brands reputation within its target market segments.
- Maintain regular communication with key accounts to track vessel class status, docking schedules and maintenance and conversion requirements.
- Oversee customer satisfaction by proactively engaging with key account customers during and after project completion, gathering feedback on yard performance, identifying short comings and proposing improvements with subsequent reporting to the CEO and Exco members.
- Conduct comprehensive environmental scanning to identify competitors, analyse their pricing strategies and service offerings and compile competitor profits to grow expert knowledge and awareness of competitor product strengths and weaknesses.
Asset Utilisation
- Oversee the strategic allocation and utilization of docks, berths and related infrastructure to maximise operational efficiency and revenue.
- Monitor booking schedules and ensure optimal dock occupancy levels balancing client demand with maintenance schedules and capacity constraints.
- Collaborate with Operations and Planning teams to forecast capacity requirements, adjust project allocations and ensure resource optimization.
- Lead initiatives to improve asset yield and turnaround times through improved planning, client coordination and process efficiency.
- Analyze utilization trends and develop strategies to increase dock throughput and profitability while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Provide monthly and quarterly reports on dock utilization, efficiency ratios and projected capacity growth opportunities to the CEO and EXCO.
Agent Management
- Identify, evaluate and appoint qualified agencies to represent the company in designated countries.
- Negotiate commission structures and payment terms with appointed agencies.
Proposals Management
- Gather and analyse market intelligence to inform tender submissions, pricing strategies, and business development initiatives, ensuring competitive offerings that support customer acquisition and retention.
- Manage a cost-effective commercial framework to achieve Namdocks strategic objectives, including administration of repair contracts, Master Service Agreements and key account development.
- Coordinate and manage yard bookings, liaising with clients to ensure project success and the efficient allocation of projects to docks.
- Build and maintain senior-level client relationships, providing guidance on market factors affecting Namdocks products and ensuring adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Staff & Performance Management
- Accountable to the CEO regarding the overall performance of the Commercial and Marketing department.
- Monitor and evaluate the departmental performance against strategic and operational plans.
Budget Management
- Compile and motivate the annual departmental budget and submit it for approval to the CEO.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop and implement strategies to foster successful, long-term customer relationships, effectively promoting Namdocks services and strengthening the brands reputation within target market segments.
Health, Safety and Risk Management
- Identify and mitigate potential risks in proposed projects by collaborating with relevant stakeholders and conducting comprehensive risk assessments, analysing data and market trends.

Qualification and Experience Required:
- Minimum Honours Bachelors degree in: Mechanical Engineering/Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering, at level NQF 8.
- MBA or relevant Masters degree would be advantageous, at level NQF 9.
- Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years relevant Senior Management experience.
- Valid Code B drivers license.
