Role: SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER
Division: Shipyard Operations
Reporting to: Executive Operations
Location: Walvis Bay
Nature of position: Permanent
Job grade: D5
Primary purpose of this position:
Responsible for ensuring vessel-specific projects are strategically assigned and delivered on time while driving execution of the yard's master project plan as a dynamic operational framework for multiple concurrent drydock operations. This includes harmonizing schedules to avoid conflicts, maximizing efficiency, and meeting contractual deadlines by aligning individual ship repair and refit timelines with the overall yard plan. The role requires identifying task dependencies, adjusting sequencing to prevent bottlenecks, and tracking milestones through advanced project management tools. Equally critical is serving as the liaison between customers and the commercial department, translating client requirements into actionable deliverables, ensuring contractual obligations are met, and facilitating transparent communication on scope, timelines, costs, and change orders across the project team.

Required skills/Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and critical path management.
- Strong understanding of drydock processes, engineering maintenance projects, principles, and maritime regulations.
- Skilled in budgeting, cost control, invoicing, and financial reporting, with the ability to align projects to organizational financial plans.
- Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks through data analysis, stakeholder collaboration, and proactive planning.
- Sound understanding with Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental standards, ensuring compliance and operational excellence.
- Capacity to optimize the yard's master project plan as a dynamic framework for multiple concurrent operations.
- Strong skills in workforce planning, performance management, coaching, mentoring, and succession planning.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders at industry, national, and international levels.
- Creative and analytical thinker, able to resolve technical and operational challenges efficiently.
- Confident in making informed, timely decisions under pressure.
- Flexible in managing shifting priorities, unexpected challenges, and evolving customer demands.

Qualification Required:
- Grade 12 (Matric) with Grade 12 (Matric) with one of the following:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering Studies/ National Diploma/ Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Maritime Studies.
- Professional project management certification is essential and a valid Code B drivers license.
Experience Required:
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant cross-functional experience in engineering maintenance and/or project environments,
- with at least 5 years served at middle management level.
- For candidates holding a National or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 6), an additional 2 years of experience will be required to compensate for the minimum qualification requirements.
