POSITION LOCATION: Windhoek, Khomas, Namibia

POSITON NAME: Operations Superintendent (Cargo Handling)

Reporting to the General Manager (Namibia), the successful applicant will be expected to execute the following

responsibilities:

  • Attend port meetings and book cranes for vessel operations.
  • Attend daily operations and safety meetings.
  • Allocate jobs/instructions to subordinates as per stowage of vessels and pre-plan meetings.
  • Identify deviation from instructions and operational activities and take corrective action.
  • Liaise with vessel agent, chief officer and foreman during vessel operations.
  • Effective communication and reporting with all relevant employees.
  • Hand in all vessels related documents after each shift.
  • Attend hand-over meeting with the supervisor of the next shift when required.
  • Enhance continuous efficiency and improvement.
  • Supervise relevant service providers and oversee subcontractors.
  • Training of SOPs with all operations employees.
  • Maintain hygiene and housekeeping requirements within your area of responsibility
  • Maintain and enforce adherence to wearing of PPE.
  • Evacuation routes and equipment remain clear and non- obstructive.
  • Conduct risk assessment on each job before, during and after.
  • Report all incidents, hazardous conditions and emergencies immediately.
  • Motive and direct employees to accomplish targets.
  • Complete shift lists before arrival of each vessel.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Matric / Grade 12
  • Code 08 Drivers Licence
  • Minimum of 5 years in Stevedoring industry
  • Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role
  • Break Bulk experience
  • Experience with Grab & Hopper and Skip Loading operations
  • Experience with project cargo pertaining to heavy lifts
  • Qualification in Rigging

  • Able to work accurately and timeously
  • Works according to standard operating procedures, including ISO
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours
  • Good communication skills
  • Computer Literacy Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
