Chief Operations Officer

Five-Year Fixed Term Contract

Namibia Drydock and Ship Repair (Pty) Ltd is a Namibian registered company specialising in Marine and Industrial engineering. We are dedicated to deliver exceptional and efficient innovative marine engineering solutions to our business partners.

Role: CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER

Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer

Location: Walvis Bay

Nature of the position: 5-Year Fixed Term Contact (FTC)

Primary purpose of this position:

This role plays a pivotal role in translating business strategy into execution, leading transformation, and delivering measurable results across all operational divisions. It oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization, ensuring efficiency, quality, and agility across divisions. In partnership with the CEO and executive team, the COO will also play a key role in shaping long-term strategic initiatives, managing organizational change, and building high-performing teams that deliver value to customers and stakeholders.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Operational Strategic Direction & Business Development

Translate strategic goals into actionable operational plans with SMART KPIs. Align operations with sustainability and business growth across all six capitals. Partner with the CEO and business development teams to drive scalable growth.

  • Operational Execution & Efficiency

Lead enterprise-wide operational planning and performance optimization. Implement KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity. Streamline workflows and reduce costs through automation and best practices.

  • Digital Transformation

Oversee the digital transformation roadmap across all operational functions. Deploy IT systems to improve data, reporting, and operational agility. Champion innovation through emerging technologies and digital tools.

  • ESG Strategy & Implementation

Ensure compliance with environmental, social, and governance frameworks. Lead SSHE initiatives and sustainability risk mitigation. Support ESG reporting through integrated data and operational practices.

  • Enterprise Risk, Compliance & Opportunity Management

Develop and maintain risk and compliance frameworks across operations. Lead internal audits, ISO compliance, and quality assurance programs. Translate policies into operational practices and drive continuous improvement.

  • Financial & Performance Oversight

Leading operational budgeting, cost control, and financial governance aligned with strategy. Monitor key financial metrics and drive cost optimization initiatives. Ensure accurate, timely internal reporting and financial risk management.

  • Stakeholder & Customer-Centric Strategy

Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Drive customer-centric strategies and service excellence. Oversee stakeholder engagement, reporting, and satisfaction monitoring.

  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement

Implement Gemba, and performance frameworks like Balanced Scorecards. Foster a culture of innovation and operational excellence. Lead enterprise-wide initiatives to enhance quality and efficiency.

  • Cross-Functional Integration & Talent Development

Align fit for purpose organizational structure with strategic and operational goals. Embed succession planning and leadership development into operations. Foster cross-functional collaboration and continuous learning.

  • Leadership & Culture

Champion the companys vision, values, and leadership framework. Lead cultural transformation and employee engagement initiatives. Mentor teams and promote ethical, high-performance leadership

Qualification and Experience Required:

  • Minimum Honours Bachelors' degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Operations Management, Engineering or a relevant field (at level NQF8).
  • A relevant Masters degree would be advantageous (at level NQF 9).
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience at Senior Management Level.
  • Proven track record in strategic operations management.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial oversight, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong background in cross-functional leadership, stakeholder engagement, and organizational culture transformation.
