Position Summary:

In in an industry heavily reliant on technology in order to achieve its business objectives, our client, one of the leading freight forwarding and logistics companies based in Windhoek, Namibia, utilises a blend of legacy and Greenfield systems and software to operate globally.

With multi-site operations and an extensive IT network supporting roughly 100 employees, we are seeking the expertise of a seasoned professional with expertise and in-depth knowledge of the IT field with specific reference to networking/IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, virtualisation and software integration. This critical role will spearhead the IT department and lead it towards close and efficient integration with company operations and goals.

With a team of two, the main responsibilities will encompass the recommendation, conceptualisation and installation of scalable infrastructure across mixed Windows, Active Directory, and Linux environments, Cybersecurity, virtualisation and assisting with the software integration of a variety of specialised and industry-specific Database Management systems and Enterprise Resource Planning systems, amongst others.

Additionally, the successful incumbent will also be responsible for the following:

Leadership.

  • Conceptualise the multi-site corporate network (LAN/WAN, VPN, SD-WAN, firewalls) and server ecosystem for optimal scalability, security, and reliability.
  • Recommendation of new technologies and tools to enhance efficiency, performance, and drive business innovation.
  • Develop and maintain robust technical standards, policies, and blueprints for all IT operations.
  • Plan and supervise domain management tasks, including domain controller deployment, trust relationships, authentication protocols, and access control strategies.
  • Provide expert-level administration and strategic direction for core identity platforms (Active Directory, Azure AD/Entra ID) and Linux servers.
  • Lead and manage a small but robust IT team.

Infrastructure and IT Operations Management.

  • Serve as the primary technical authority for all server and network infrastructure, including virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, Proxmox, TrueNAS Scale), storage (SAN/NAS), and backup/disaster recovery solutions.
  • Oversee enterprise-level Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy management.
  • Asset management and scheduled replacement.
  • Lead major technical projects from design to implementation (e.g., cloud migrations, new security tooling, core infrastructure upgrades).
  • Oversee resolution of major system outages and ensure data integrity, backup, and disaster recovery plans are regularly tested.

Compliance.

  • Ensure all technical operations and systems comply with internal policies and various external regulations.

Financial & Vendor Management.

  • Oversee IT budgeting, technical CapEx forecasting, procurement, and vendor management for all technical solutions and services, including technical evaluation.

Cybersecurity.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, Master's degree advantageous.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive IT experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Willingness to work in a complex and multi-site enterprise environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the capacity to, on occasion, guide and support users with a wide range of digital literacy skills, some of whom require extra assistance with basic IT concepts.
  • Willingness to work with, and learn about, niche IT solutions and products.
  • Fluent in English, fluency in German will be a distinct advantage.
  • Driver's License (manual).
