Litigation Associate Attorney (Public Entity Defense)
Location: Bay Area (Hybrid/Remote) – San Francisco, CA
Compensation: $130,000 – $180,000 base salary
Billable Hours: Reasonable annual requirement (1,850 hours)
Bonuses: Hourly + performance-based bonus opportunities

Work arrangements are flexible—some attorneys are fully remote while others prefer in-office work. The structure will be tailored to the right candidate. However, applicants must live in (or relocate to) the Bay Area to attend in-person proceedings as needed.
The Opportunity
HireNow Staffing is acting as a direct placement partner for a preeminent California public entity defense firm known for outstanding advocacy, deep expertise in public sector litigation, and consistent courtroom success.
Due to continued growth, the firm is seeking one or more Litigation Associate Attorneys to join its expanding Bay Area team. This role offers meaningful responsibility, direct client exposure, and hands-on litigation experience across a broad range of state and federal matters.

Key Responsibilities
Candidates will be considered for interview based on demonstrated ability to:

Manage an active litigation caseload with increasing independence over time

Conduct legal research and strategic case analysis to support strong defense outcomes

Draft high-quality pleadings, discovery, motions, and dispositive briefs

Participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial preparation

Appear in both state and federal court proceedings on behalf of public entity clients

Collaborate closely with partners, associates, and litigation support teams to ensure efficient matter management

Maintain excellent client communication, providing timely updates on case posture, discovery progress, and litigation strategy
-
Contribute to a team-oriented environment that values precision, professionalism, and strong advocacy
Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)
These qualifications are mandatory. Candidates who do not meet all requirements will not be considered.

Juris Doctor from an accredited law school

Active admission to the California State Bar, in good standing

0–7 years of legal experience (litigation experience strongly preferred)

Strong legal research, writing, and analytical capabilities

Excellent oral communication and courtroom professionalism

Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a collaborative litigation team

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Stable resume with consistent tenure and professional progression
Preferred Qualifications (Standout Differentiators)

Prior civil litigation or public entity defense experience

Courtroom exposure, including hearings or trial support

Deposition or motion practice experience
