THE ROLE
This role sits at the heart of iAlumbras philanthropic strategy. The Program Officer will manage a diverse portfolio of initiatives and partners across our four thematic areas:
- Ocean Vitality
- Land & Water Stewardship
- Sense of Place
- Resilient Communities
The Program Officer will serve as a trusted advisor and representative of the Foundation, leading grantmaking, advancing partnerships, and ensuring projects deliver tangible results. It is a strategic role for someone who thrives at the intersection of research, community collaboration, and philanthropy. This is more than a program management role. Its an opportunity to strengthen civic life, support local leaders, and connect Baja California Surs experience to broader global networks of learning and change.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
You are a strategic, entrepreneurial, and self-directed professional with deep experience in philanthropy and social impact. You bring:
- 7+ years of professional experience that includes philanthropy, social entrepreneurship, or impact investing in Latin America.
- Proven ability to analyze, synthesize and communicate qualitative data.
- Experience acting as a trusted advisor to clients, colleagues, and partners.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish.
- Adaptive mindset and flexible disposition with a capacity to work in evolving contexts.
- Creative problem-solver with intellectual curiosity and strategic thinking skills.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, including experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Working knowledge of financial and accounting principles, including the ability to review organizational budgets and financial statements.
- Experience developing, managing, and evaluating grants and grantees.

They are equally comfortable in boardrooms and community meetings, able to translate between diverse perspectives and build trust with partners at every level. With deep roots or strong experience in Latin America, and ideally familiarity with Baja California Sur, they understand the importance of locally grounded solutions that can inform global practice.
They balance analytical skills with empathy, working collaboratively and as a true team player, bringing both discipline in managing grants and adaptability to support dynamic, community-driven initiatives.
LOCATION
Based in La Paz, Baja California Sur.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Grantmaking and Partnership Development
- Lead the development, execution, and management of grants and contracts, including due diligence on organizations and leadership, defining grant terms and expectations, and setting measurable outputs and outcomes.
- Conduct site visits, review budgets, monitor operations, and ensure timely reporting and payments.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, grantees, and collaborators aligned with the Foundations strategic priorities.
Research and Strategy
- Conduct research in targeted issue areas identified by the Principal and team, refining strategies and developing goals for impact.
- Identify outstanding needs, gaps, and optimal partners for
 support.
- Serve as a resource on philanthropic best practices,
 foundation administration, and emerging trends in the field.
Project Implementation and Internal Collaboration
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments (including HR, Legal, Finance, and Operations) to provide coordinated support for philanthropic initiatives.
- Effectively manage workflow and communication across multiple projects.
- Lead or contribute to other strategic projects and assignments as requested by the team or Foundation leadership.
Impact Measurement and Evaluation
- Define and track key metrics to measure and monitor project impact at both the partner and initiative levels.
- Develop mechanisms for adaptive learning and mid-course corrections based on results.
