Procurement Manager
Job Description:
An established mining operation based in Barberton, Mpumalanga is seeking an experienced Procurement Manager to lead and manage its procurement function.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective sourcing of goods and services while maintaining strong standards of quality, governance, supplier performance and commercial control.
This is a hands-on procurement leadership role requiring a strong understanding of the operational demands associated with mining and heavy industrial environments. The Procurement Manager will need to balance cost optimisation with the availability of production-critical materials, equipment and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with operational and financial objectives.
- Manage the sourcing, evaluation, negotiation and appointment of suppliers and service providers.
- Obtain, evaluate and manage quotations and tenders in accordance with procurement procedures.
- Negotiate competitive pricing, payment terms, service levels and contractual conditions.
- Manage supplier contracts, pricing agreements and service-level agreements.
- Monitor supplier performance, delivery timelines, product quality and contractual compliance.
- Ensure the availability of production-critical materials, equipment, consumables and services.
- Partner closely with Mining, Engineering, Plant, Finance, Stores and other operational departments to determine procurement requirements.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety, quality or operational continuity.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier information and supporting documentation.
- Ensure expenditure remains within approved budgets, procurement policies and delegated authority levels.
- Support inventory planning and initiatives aimed at reducing unnecessary, obsolete or excess stock.
- Manage, support and develop procurement team members.
- Identify and mitigate procurement, supply-chain and supplier-related risks.
- Promote ethical procurement practices and assist in preventing conflicts of interest, fraud and unauthorised expenditure.
- Prepare procurement reports and provide relevant commercial information to management.
- Support transformation, local procurement and supplier-development objectives where applicable.
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, Commerce or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years' procurement or supply-chain experience, including supervisory or management-level responsibility.
- Previous procurement experience within mining, engineering, construction or another heavy industrial environment is essential.
- Strong knowledge of:

- Supplier management
- Strong commercial, negotiation and analytical capability.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience working with procurement, inventory management or ERP systems.
- Pastel experience would be advantageous.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Clear criminal record.

Additional Requirements
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Be certified medically fit in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996.
- Complete relevant job-related assessments where required.
- Undergo criminal, reference and qualification verification checks.
Preference may be given to suitably qualified candidates from designated groups and the local community.
