SAQCC Fire Detection Technician - George

 Job Description:

An experienced and SAQCC-registered Fire Detection Technician is required to join a busy fire protection team based in George. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing, maintenance, fault finding and repair of fire detection, sprinkler and related fire protection systems across customer sites.

This role requires a hands-on technician who is technically strong, customer-focused, able to work independently, and confident in ensuring that all work is completed in line with SAQCC requirements, applicable SANS codes, health and safety standards and service quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, test, service, maintain and repair fire detection, sprinkler and related fire protection systems.
  • Program, configure and troubleshoot fire detection control panels.
  • Diagnose system faults and carry out repairs to ensure minimal downtime and reliable system performance.
  • Conduct site surveys, assess client requirements and prepare accurate quotations.
  • Plan, coordinate and complete installation, maintenance and special projects from start to finish.
  • Supervise and provide technical guidance to assistant technicians where required.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant SANS codes, SAQCC Fire requirements, client specifications and health and safety regulations.
  • Complete service reports, commissioning documents, quotations, job cards and project records accurately and on time.
  • Travel to customer sites and work outside normal business hours when operational requirements demand.
  • Deliver professional customer service and maintain strong working relationships with clients.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Valid SAQCC Fire Detection / DGS registration.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in the installation, commissioning, servicing and maintenance of fire detection and sprinkler systems.
  • Proven experience programming, configuring and fault finding on fire detection control panels.
  • Previous pipe fitting experience is essential.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable SANS standards and fire protection regulations.
  • Ability to conduct site surveys, prepare quotations and oversee projects through to completion.
  • Strong fault-finding, technical problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong planning, organisational and communication skills.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will come from a fire protection, fire detection, sprinkler, suppression or integrated life safety systems environment. They will be technically hands-on, confident on client sites, able to manage work independently, and capable of supporting junior technicians while ensuring every installation, service call and project is completed safely, professionally and in line with compliance requirements.
