PRODUCTION ENGINEER - NEWCASTLE

 Job Description:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for providing effective technical support to the operations team, offering the necessary technical expertise and implementing appropriate actions to ensure efficient operational activities. The role also ensures optimal plant performance and product output in accordance with set KPIs, product specifications, and quality standards at the water treatment plant(s) within the area of responsibility.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Take operational responsibility for plant performance and wellbeing, ensuring safe and efficient operations
  • Provide Process, Operational, and Maintenance expertise
  • Monitor and evaluate plant health and performance, taking appropriate action as required
  • Communicate plant status and initiate necessary interventions to maintain optimum performance
  • Compile and distribute daily plant operational performance reports to stakeholders
  • Identify and drive optimisation and cost-saving initiatives
  • Track chemical consumption and manage stock levels
  • Monitor and optimise treatment costs
  • Implement Continuous Improvement Initiatives
  • Lead onsite process changes
  • Contribute to project-related process inputs and commissioning of new installations
  • Manage risks associated with plant equipment
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures as required
  • Train and develop Process Controllers and Supervisors
  • Follow Incident Notification protocols and manage Incidents/NCRs, ensuring follow-up on corrective/preventative actions
  • Manage client interactions and attend relevant meetings
  • Ensure adherence to PTOs, SWPs, and Task Risk Assessments as per schedule and procedures
  • Maintain effective client communication and relationship management

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • Qualifications: B.Eng or BTech in Chemical Engineering (Required)
  • Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles; exposure to electrical and instrumentation
  • 3 - 5 years experience in an engineering or production-related field preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, databases, PowerPoint, and email
  • Preferably experienced in water treatment processes such as RO, UF, Precipitation, and Clarification
  • Fast learner with the ability to work independently
  • Valid Code B drivers licence and own transport
  • Strong initiative, problem-solving, and improvement mindset
  • Effective time management and ability to work under pressure
  • Team player with the capability to work without supervision
