Senior / Consultant (Nephrology)

 Job Description:

Main Responsibilities

Organisation and Department

  • Assist with achieving department KPIs
  • Assist department in achieving institutions KPIs

Quality Assurance Initiatives

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory authorities mandates and directives
  • Actively participate in quality improvement programmes
  • Participate in local / overseas conference by submitting educational papers and performing requiring presentations
  • Multidisciplinary Round participation
  • Mortality Review presentation and participation
  • Peer Review Learning presentation and participation
  • Continuing Medical Education presentations and participation
  • Help conduct clinical audit, data compilations, manuscript writing and presentation

Patient Care and Supervision

  • Responsible for delivering quality patient care at allocated dialysis centres
  • Assist with implementation of patient care policies and procedures
  • Ensure infection control measures are adhered and implemented
  • Perform monthly physician dialysis rounds at assigned dialysis centres
  • Perform ad hoc rounding at dialysis centres, as needed
  • Participate in medical review of patients being admitted to dialysis centres
  • Help Medical Director in the following duties:
  • Water quality standards as per MOHs Renal Dialysis Guidelines
  • Dialysate quality and monitoring biochemical and microbiological
  • Attending calls and answering email or communications from dialysis centre or nurses during operating hours of the DCs 
  • Ensure proper and timely documentation of treatment and prescriptions ordered for patients under review
  • Work with allied health staff, social workers, admission office staff, medical affairs staff and other departmental colleagues, to ensure quality patient care and other necessary duties, as needed
  • Monitor and report targets for various clinical indicators
  • Assist to monitor care provided by visiting doctors and provide backup coverage, as needed
  • Assist in supervising locum doctors or doctors not accredited by SAB/SMC under Renal Medicine, to ensure quality of care being delivered
  • Comply to all policy and procedures to ensure quality of care
  • Service enhancement: Help expand existing patient care programmes and provide assistance in initiating new services
  • To perform duties as and when assigned by the Director of Medical Services or equivalent designation

Training

  • Work with and supervise nursing staff on patient management
  • Provide teaching support and supervision for training on:-
  • Introduction to Renal Dialysis for nurses
  • Clinical Empowerment Programmes for nursing
  • Technical training for nursing, allied health care workers and ancillary staff
  • Take active role in CEN training, assessment and certification of candidates 

Administrative

  • Provide support in supervision and task completion of staff in Medical Affairs and Medical Services, as needed
  • Provide support to Medical Director for fulfilling admin duties, as needed
  • Provide support in research activities approved by Medical Director
  • Assist in approval of high-value drugs 
  • Help organise KCC and provide leadership as a chair or co-chair person, as requested
  • Take active role in new DC licensing by MOH, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met
  • Management, initiation and oversight of clinical programmes, as requested

Qualifications

  • Degree in Medicine from a recognized University
  • Certification by Specialist Accreditation Board (SAB) in Renal Medicine
  • Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (MRCP) or American Board Certification qualification or equivalent qualification eligible for registration with SMC
  • Full Registration under Renal Medicine with SMC

Experience

  • 5 years experience in clinical nephrology practice including clinical management of patients with end-stage renal disease

Soft Skills

  • Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Full competence in written and spoken English
