Are you passionate about education and able to dedicate two hours a month? If yes, we have a paid opportunity available as a Part-Time Clerk to the Governing Body of a local Primary School in Havant.

The role will require about 100-110 hours per year, including attending Full Governing Body meetings and handling administrative duties. The school hosts 9 governing body meetings annually, usually on Mondays at 4pm for about 2 hours each. Although they would like an on-site clerk, they are willing to consider a virtual clerk for the right person.

The Role:

  • Establish and agree upon a meeting agenda
  • Gather and share all relevant paperwork
  • Take minutes and get draft approval
  • Make necessary changes and distribute
  • Follow up on action points and ensure public access
  • Inform Hampshire Governor Services of membership changes and yearly officer elections
  • Provide guidance on procedural and constitutional matters
  • Research and resolve complex issues with advice from LEA and outside agencies
  • Attend training and support meetings for updates on legislation and best practices
  • Handle all incoming governor correspondence
  • Maintain filing system for paperwork with separate section for confidential minutes

Experience:

  • Minimum of two GSCE (or equivalent) passes at level C or above including English Language
  • At least 3 years general clerical/administration experience
  • At least one years experience of agenda setting, minute taking and committee administration
  • Basic knowledge of governor or educational issues
  • Awareness of the importance of confidentiality
  • Ability to develop an understanding of roles and responsibilities in education
  • Proficient IT skills
  • Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Effective team player with the ability to give clear advice
  • Proactive and independent worker
  • Creative problem-solving skills within a legal framework
  • Must have own transport, telephone, and access to a PC/laptop at home
