Job Purpose

The purpose of an Airport Crew Commander encompasses several critical responsibilities and objectives aimed at ensuring the safety of the airport environment.

The Crew Commander ensures that the firefighting team is always ready to respond to emergencies. This includes maintaining operational readiness of firefighting equipment, vehicles, and infrastructure, in adherence to the GCAA regulatory standards and airport category requirements.

In the event of a fire, the Crew Commander will lead firefighting efforts, coordinate with other emergency services to manage incidents swiftly and effectively, and includes assessing the situation, executing firefighting strategies, and ensuring the safety of all personnel involved.

Furthermore, the Crew Commander is responsible for reporting to the Watch Commander about incidents, team performance, and any safety occurrences. This includes submitting detailed reports on incidents and participating in safety audits and investigations.

Conduct emergency standbys to prevent incidents and accidents as requested.

Monitor, identify, mitigate and report areas of non-compliance (HIRA).

Stakeholder Relations

1.

Build, support and maintain healthy diverse internal (peers, unions, team) as well as external (service providers etc.) relationships and implement remedial actions where required to ensure achievement of organizational goals and enhance emergency response preparedness.

Training and Development

1.

Participate in educational Firefighting programmes.

2.

Maintain level of physical fitness as per RAK policies and procedures.

3.

Attend identified development programmes for succession planning purposes.

4.

Undergo physical and theoretical training according to the Structured Learning Program.

5.

Participate in drills and exercises.

Process

1.

In conjunction with the Watch Commander, the Crew Commander shall be responsible for conducting monthly training.

2.

Assists in monitoring, and reviewing training needs.

3.

Supervise in inspecting and maintaining the fire trucks and its equipment and testing of fire hydrants and checking emergency water supplies.

4.

Carry out roles and responsibilities of the B.A.Control officer at incidents

5.

Carry out the Watch commander duties in his absence.

6.

Act as the sector Commander in the event of incidents and accidents.

People Management

1.

Acting in role of Manager/Senior Supervisor/Supervisor when required.

2.

Coach and support junior staff as and when required.

Customer and Reporting

1.

Reports to the watch commander or leading fireman or his immediate superior. Communication & Working Relationships Internal

Qualifications, Experience, & Skills


Public

Qualifications Educational Qualifications

1.

Diploma or equivalent, minimum of high school education (12th Grade) & Fluent in the English language (both spoken and written)

Professional Qualifications

1.

Light and heavy UAE drivers license

2.

First Aid qualified and licensing is advantageous.

3.

Completed the Incident Command Course

Physical Requirement Physical Requirement

1.

Candidates should be in good general muscular development, with no marked obesity and medically fit.

2.

Should not be less than 1.65metres in height.

3.

Have good eyesight.

4.

Clean shaven (for the wearing of breathing apparatus).

5.

Fit for any manual work, including lifting, climbing and all firefighting related duties.

6.

Cannot be Claustrophobic, Acrophobic nor Hemophobia.

EXPERIENCE Required Experience

Have at least 2yrs experience as a fireman /driver. Other Requirements- Safety accountability and responsibilities

All staff has the following safety responsibilities and is accountable to their supervisor(s) and Head of Department:

To comply with the relevant safety requirements and procedures outlined in the Aerodrome Operations Manual and Safety Management System and any other instructions or notices issued by Ras Al Khaimah International Airport.

To comply with the safety requirements detailed within their training.

To advise their Head of Department and the Airport Duty Officer team of any safety occurrence or system failure and to identify and report any situation of potential risk or concern affecting safety via one of the following means.

Report directly to the Safety Department or an immediate supervisor.

Submitting an Accident/ Incident Report.

Support safety audits as and investigations as they occur.
