Analytics Engineer
Job Description:
We are looking for an Analytics Engineer to join our Data Science and Analytics team to own, support and develop data products and analytics workflows serving multiple functions across the organization. The role will require a well-balanced commercial and technical skillset with the ability to translate stakeholder requirements into data products and analytics workflows. We're looking for a candidate who has strong data engineering skillset capable of producing high quality, production ready workflows and data products. The Analytics Engineer will be working with massive datasets and ideally will have experience working with Pyspark or other distributed computing engines. Finally, we're looking for someone who is willing to learn, grow, and is a self-starter.
As an Analytics Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the organizations analytics vision by working closely with the business to execute on data-driven initiatives. You will be responsible for developing data solutions, performing data analysis, and producing quality production ready code. The role requires mastery in manipulating large datasets using Pyspark, good understanding of data engineering and data modeling skills
What you'll do
- Designing and building software solutions to solve and generate value for business problems
 
- Take ownership of the in-house ETRM and Load Valuation engine and become the subject matter expert for all valuations and reporting across both TX and Northeast markets
 
- Work with Portfolio Management, Finance, and Product on scoping and developing new modules and updates to our systems
 
- Writing high quality, testable, maintainable production code
 
- Develop automated, testable, and scalable solutions and data products
 
- Develop automated data validation solution for all inputs into the valuation engine
 
- Develop and automate the demand response reporting and performance tracking data products
 
- Work with Software and Data Engineering teams on improving our DevOps and CICD workstreams
 
- Design and develop P&L diagnostics as well as a reporting layer for valuation outputs
 
- Work with Engineering, Data Engineering, Credit, and Finance teams to seamlessly connect the valuation/financial systems to other systems
 
- Lead the technical needs of ETRM implementation and work with Portfolio Management, Finance and Product teams to design and develop the upstream and downstream processes
 
- Taking ownership and leading the development various projects and initiatives throughout the organization working with our product team

What you'll bring
- 2+ years of experience in retail energy space in quantitative roles such as portfolio management analytics, structuring, or advanced financial modeling
 
- 4+ years of experience in Python, including relevant data science tools such as pandas, numpy, sklearn
 
- Familiarity with Big Data Frameworks and Distributed computing tools (Spark, PySpark, HDFS, MapReduce, Hive, Databricks, etc.) and building/deploying Cloud applications
 
- Strong Software Engineering background, including experience with data modeling, algorithms, and software quality processes (e.g. CI/CD tools, code reviews, testing & deployment automation, etc.)
 
- A well-balanced experience and skillset combining commercial knowledge and programming/technology know-how
 
- Experience developing data products with large data sets and complex transformations that scale well in a distributed computing environment
 
- Experienced in translating complex business concepts to production quality code
 
- Knowledge of retail and wholesale energy markets, regulations, market design and risks
 
- Experienced developing and analyzing P&L diagnostic tools, Mark-To-Market engines
 
- Experienced in retail costing and financial modelling of tariffs in de-regulated electricity
 
- Ability to handle big data and design advanced solutions to value large sets of data
 
- Ability to communicate systems/data concepts and designs to a wide range of stakeholders
 
- Experience summarizing and presenting complex data products and models to a wide range of audiences throughout the organization
 
- Knowledge of energy customer serving business P&L and risk drivers
 
- Ability to develop strong working relationship with internal stakeholders such as credit, finance, data engineering and software engineering
 
- Bachelors degree in finance, Economics or other quantitative disciplines
 
- Experienced in developing BI reports using Power BI, Looker or other related services
 
- Databricks experience a plus
 
Success Metrics
- Deliver production-ready valuation and P&L reporting pipelines with >99% uptime and <1% data error rate.
 
- Develop new reporting layers and dashboards to support structured deals, hedging positions, and P&L diagnostics for the Northeast portfolios.
 
- Contribute to the buildout of wholesale fundamentals tools including price prediction, system-wide demand forecasting, and grid fundamentals data products using Databricks and PySpark pipelines.
 
- Partner with Portfolio Management, Finance, Credit, and Data Engineering to ensure valuation and risk tools are fully integrated and auditable across all markets. - Deliver at least one new predictive or diagnostic data product per quarter that supports trading, supply strategy, or valuation accuracy improvements.
