Role Overview

We are seeking a meticulous and analytical Technical Accountant to join our reinsurance operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the accounting and administration of a portfolio of facultative and treaty reinsurance contracts. This role is essential for ensuring the accurate and timely recording of all technical transactions, maintaining data integrity, and supporting the financial reporting process. You will work closely with underwriters, claims officers, brokers, and cedents to manage the financial aspects of our reinsurance agreements.

Key Responsibilities.

  • Technical Transaction Processing:
  • Process and book premium and claim bordereaux, statements of account, and related financial transactions for both proportional and non-proportional treaties.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of technical data received from ceding companies and brokers.
  • Administer facultative accounts, including premium calculation, collection, and claim processing.
    • Manage and reconcile cash flow, including premium receipts and claim payments.
    • Prepare and process cash calls and letters of credit (LOCs) as required by reinsurance contracts.
    • Perform regular reconciliation of accounts to ensure balances agree with broker and cedent statements.
      • Ensure all transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
      • Assist in the preparation of reports for internal and external stakeholders, including underwriting, actuarial, and finance departments.
      • Support the monthly and quarterly financial close process by providing accurate technical accounting data.
        • Serve as a key point of contact for brokers and ceding companies regarding account statements, payments, and other financial queries.
        • Build and maintain strong working relationships with business partners to facilitate efficient information exchange and resolve discrepancies.
        • Proactively follow up on overdue balances and outstanding issues.

        Required Qualifications and Skills

          1. 1-3 years of experience in technical accounting within the insurance or reinsurance industry.
          1. Strong understanding of reinsurance principles, contracts, and terminology for both facultative and treaty business.
          1. High degree of numeracy and attention to detail, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
          1. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
          1. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential.
          1. Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.

          Preferred Qualifications.

          1. Experience with reinsurance accounting software/systems.
          1. Progress towards a professional accounting or insurance designation (e.g., CPA, ARe).
          1. Knowledge of different lines of business (e.g., Property, Casualty).
