About the company:

A leading mining multinational mining and metals corporation involved in the exploration, mining, and processing of mineral resources and leader in sustainable and responsible mining practices. Its exploration division is currently focused on early-stage lithium exploration in Rwanda.

Job Purpose:

This role entails supporting implementation and ongoing development of new geoscience technology in its application to early-stage lithium exploration in Rwanda working as part of a project team in Kigali and supported by technical specialists. The role will oversee all aspects of the core scanning process and include sign off on data quality working closely with operators at the Rio Tinto Kigali Core Yard currently located in the Special Economic Zone.

Responsibilities:

  • Routine quality control of data outputs and perform minor data corrections if required.
  • Solve problems with the data as they arise and communicate challenging issues to the global support team.
  • Work with technical specialists to interpret core scanning data to understand key geological findings.
  • Ensure new scanning projects are adequately set-up and devices have a consistent throughput of sample material.
  • Train and assist the project team in using the data to support the geological interpretation and workflow.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • A passion for geoscience, geochemistry and mineralogy.
  • Willingness and curiosity to work on the development and implementation of a new technology.
  • Ability to independently solve basic problems and work collaboratively with others to solve those more complex.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and open to learning new software tools.
  • Ability to communicate technical or logistical issues and offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Detail orientated, good communication skills, ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively within a small team.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic worksite environment.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to highest levels of safety in the workplace.
  • A geoscience or equivalent degree-level qualification.
