 Job Description:

Head of Employment - Lawyer

Salary £110,000 negotiable

To take principal charge of the Employment Team and employment law matters in Jersey and Guernsey by providing technical legal advice to clients across a number of practice areas, primarily litigation and financial services law. In this role you will also identify and follow through with opportunities to grow the employment practice and the business by initiating, developing and maintaining productive client and intermediary relationships, proactively driving change and assisting the business to deliver its overall strategic plans.

Key Responsibilities

Client Work

  • To take responsibility for the management and co-ordination of client work as delegated by the Partners.
  • To manage risk exposure in accordance with the firm's policies and procedures.
  • To ensure all clients receive a high quality, timely and professional service to meet their needs.
  • To delegate to and actively supervise the work of more junior staff as appropriate.


Business development

  • Promote and strengthen the brand.
  • Within the team/firm strategy, contribute proactively to the development and implementation of global employment law business development plans aimed at attracting more work from existing clients and developing new client relationships.
  • Identify and support new ventures, cross selling opportunities and ways to develop our services.
  • Take responsibility for a range of non-chargeable activities to build the firm's know-how and external reputation through regular seminars/writing of articles/presentations etc.


Financial/Practice Management

  • To take personal responsibility for achieving target hours; proactively manage billings and debtors and record time in a consistent way.
  • To demonstrate a good understanding of our key financial indicators by educating others.
  • To identify, discuss and implement changes/improvements to the way the practice runs and/or the services provided to clients.


Qualifications

  •  7 years+ PQE with Jersey, Guernsey and/or UK qualification.

Knowledge/skills/experience

  • Significant experience in employment law,  Jersey or Guernsey law.
  • Excellent technical ability
  • Delegation and supervisory experience
  • Business development acumen
  • Excellent communication skills (clear and concise), both written and oral
  • The ability to remain calm, measured and focused even under pressure
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to proactively manage competing priorities
