Key Responsibilities

Professional/Technical Advice

  • To support and participate in the successful growth of the firm's Corporate, Finance, Funds and Regulatory team.
  • To advise and support clients in connection with a wide range of transactional and advisory work, including share and asset acquisitions and disposals, solvent and insolvent restructurings, structuring advice and implementation, lender and borrower side financings and financial services regulatory matters.
  • To take responsibility for the management and co-ordination of client work as delegated by the Partners, including researching, drafting and reviewing transaction documentation, legal opinions and advice.
  • Approach issues with commercial sense and provide solutions which are pragmatic.
  • Ensure all clients receive a high quality, timely and professional service to meet their needs.
  • Take personal responsibility for achieving target hours, proactively manage billings and debtors and record time in a consistent way.
  • Participate in the firm's internal and external training programmes.
  • Contribute to the development of Know How and precedents when drafting documents.

Business Development

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, to help retain and attract more clients and work into the business. Actively contribute to the development of clients and contacts for the whole firm.
  • Take a proactive role in developing relationships with key clients. Work with others to ensure a cross-departmental approach is taken to client management. Recognise and exploit cross-selling opportunities.
  • Have a good understanding of activities and services of competitors and have mechanisms in place to keep up to date.
  • Clearly understand the firm's strategy and look for ways that the department can work with other groups to further develop opportunities. Participate effectively as a member of the team involved in winning business, identifying cross-selling opportunities and seek ways to develop our services and client base.
  • Play an active role in the firm's CSR initiatives and encourage those within the team to get involved.
  • Actively promote the firm's public profile.
  • Assist in the promotion, development and implementation of the practice area business plans.

Training, Supervision and Development

  • Support senior associates and partners in the management and training of trainees/paralegals.
  • Demonstrate effective supervision and guidance to trainees/paralegals to develop the skills of the team.
  • Delegate and manage the work of trainees/paralegals appropriately and monitor the progression of work, providing appropriate guidance when required.
  • Help create a participative and productive work environment.
  • Respect and encourage the contribution of trainees/paralegals and support staff. Motivate such colleagues through recognition, praise and mentoring.
  • Constantly look for ways to develop own skills and knowledge.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

ESSENTIAL:

  • Qualified lawyer (solicitor or barrister, qualified in a common law jurisdiction) with 2-4 years' post qualification experience.
  • Experience in non-contentious advisory and transactional work.
  • A resourceful team player.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills.
  • Commercially focused and business aware.
  • Excellent attention to detail and drafting skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Sound legal technical skills.

DESIRABLE:

  • Ideally offshore law experience.
  • Client and service focused with excellent client facing skills.
  • Experience of business development and marketing.
  • Experience working in a financial services business.
